Understanding what the pros and cons of a painting do it yourself project is.

Why DIY?

There are a number of reasons why someone would decide to take on a “do-it-yourself” project. Many people love learning a new skill or enjoy gaining a sense of achievement when they do a task themselves. Others do it to meet new friends or simply as a way to pass the time. However the most common answer given is that it saves money.
It could be agreed on that simple household DIY projects like replacing a doorknob or pressure washing the driveway may save you time and money but this is almost never the case when trying to undertake a professional trade. This is not to put anyone off undertaking a DIY painting job. It can be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding DIY projects you can do. However if your only goal is to save money then you will almost certainly be disappointed.
Consider that you must first buy all the tools required to undertake your first project. Then consider the time and money spent on acquiring the knowledge to paint. A qualified painter has had to do four years of full time training. Then consider the cost of your time. That is what you get paid in your job versus what a painter may get paid. Typically a painter will be twice as fast as someone doing a DIY project. Not to mention the cost of making a mistake whilst learning how to paint and having to do it all again. Finally there is the value that should be attributed to the undoubted difference in painting quality that will occur between a DIY painting job and a professionally painted one.
